Candle Care Guide
Hi! I'm Nina Filipina :) Let me show you what a BaO Artisan Candle is and tips how to make your candle burning experience safe and amazing.

What is a BaO Artisan Candle?
Bao (n.) /bá·o/ - Tagalog word meaning coconut shellA BaO Artisan Candle is a hand-poured beeswax candle in a coconut shell. Before the beeswax is scented and poured into the bao, the inside of the coconut is carefully lined with cement.

Each BaO is unique as every coconut shell is unique, so no two candles are the same! Every candle has 150g of beeswax (regardless of shape and size), and is roughly 4x4x4". They come packed in a 5x5x5 bayong bag, made of pandan leaves. This is the best packaging I have found - sturdy & locally made!BaO is currently located in Barangay Bagong Ilog, Pasig City, Metro Manila, Philippines.
Is a coconut candle safe?
The BaO Candle has been carefully made so you can have a safe candle burning experience.Coconut shells will crack from extreme temperatures (extreme heat and cold!) However, the cement inside the coconut shell will keep the beeswax from seeping out, so imagine having a cement vessel inside a coconut bowl!It is important to note the following:
- Do not burn the candle for more than four hours at a time.
- Never leave a candle burning unattended.
- Keep out of reach of children, pets, and flammable objects.
- Snuff out the flames by placing the cap over the bao until the flames extinguish.
- The BaO Candle will be hot when the candle is lit. Allow the candle to fully cool before relighting.
Do not light anymore when wax is only 1/8" thick (you will start to see the cement base of the bao when the wax is nearly finished). BaO is prone to breaking at this point.

Flame height is very important!Once you light your candle, make sure your flame height is not too tall. This is an example of a healthy flame height:

Regularly cut off the black parts of the wick to prevent smoke and soot. A healthy flame will spread aroma around the room fast.

This is an example of a wick that needs trimming! When the black part of the wick is too tall, cut it off with a pair of scissors or a wick trimmer.

There is a cement base at the bottom and sides of the BaO to keep the shell from experiencing too much heat. When the cement base is visible through the melted wax or there is only 1/8th an inch left of the wax, stop burning your candle. BaO is prone to breaking at this point.

Snuff out the candle with the cap to prevent smoke from the extinguished flames to escape.Burn no longer than 4 hours at a time to prevent the BaO from getting too hot.
